The Sheriff’s Office Operations Center, at 901 E. Moody Blvd. in Bunnell, was tainted with a mysterious mold outbreak in 2018. After several employees began developing symptoms of mold exposure, Sheriff Rick Staly ordered everybody out of the building. About 70 Sheriff’s Office employees were displaced. The building has sat virtually empty since then.
Now it is happening again. While planning to convert the old Sears building in Palm Coast to accommodate the sheriff’s office, mold and water damage was found again. Significant mold and structural issues were found, thankfully before any remodeling had been started. Sheriff Staly stated, “It certainly looks pretty, but it’s a piece of junk.”
